The Sacraments: Holy Communion and Baptism
Holy Communion and baptism are beloved acts of worship. In them, we see the word of God visibly acted out before us.
Holy Communion points to grace and sustenance through Christ. In taking the bread and cup, we remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us in his suffering and death while experiencing Jesus Christ among us here and now.
The United Methodist Holy Communion table is an open table: open to all who seek to know the love of God.
The other sacrament is Holy Baptism. Baptism points to life, birth, renewal, cleansing. It is the initiation into God’s Family.
United Methodists baptize people of all ages and we remember that God's grace was with us before we were ever born. God has opened God's Kingdom to all people, regardless of age, race, or nationality.
United Methodists do not believe in being “re-baptized”; the grace of God is more powerful than any of our past actions or experiences. We do, however, encourage our members to touch the baptismal water, remember their baptisms, and be thankful for the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
